ACTUAL CAFE FACADE & TENANT IMPROVEMENT
The Actual Cafe, conceived by Sal Bednarz with the help of the Oakland Facade and Tennant Improvement Program, is the ultimate environmentally friendly and sustainable project. Bednarz partnered with the East Bay Bike Coalition to create a bicycle-friendly place that includes indoor bicycle parking for patrons. Almost all the equipment furnishings and fixtures were salvaged material. The cafe is a loft-like space with an abundance of natural lighting which provides enough heat gain to heat the cafe throughout the year. The Actual Cafe is an ideal place for group cyclists to meet before or after a ride. Many events are organized throughout the week and it has become the social center of the neighborhood, a promise Bednarz made during the approval process.
