FIRST UNITARIAN CHURCH
The First Unitarian Church of Oakland, built in 1891, is a registered City, State and Federal landmark. We were retained by the Church to develop a seismic strengthening project that also included improvements to accommodate the growing needs of the church without diminishing its historic significance. A new 3-story classroom and administrative wing was built within the volume of a portion of the existing building. This wing includes a commercial kitchen and elevator to provide access for the disabled to all of the building’s facilities. This project was awarded a 2001 East Bay AIA Merit Award.
