BHS WOMEN'S CREW BOATHOUSE
Berkeley, California

We volunteered our services to Berkeley High School Women’s Crew team to design a boathouse for their program, to be able to move out of crowded Lake Merritt Rowing Club. The existing "Boating House" building at Berkeley Aquatic Park would be leased from the City. The women would share the space with the Berkeley Tinker’s Workshop Group, who would occupy the adjacent buildings, this would ease the burden of maintaining the property.

The design included a main building containing one boat bay, a work area with lockers for the coaches, a locker room for the rowers (with a connecting bathroom and shower area- both with handicap access) and a team meeting area.
A separate building a few yards away would contain the weight room and the ergometer room. Attached to one side of this smaller building is a shed that would store the program’s oars.
The launching dock was designed to enable the team to use both sides of the dock for launching and docking. Close to the new dock was a launch port, for docking of the coach’s launches.
