SAINT MARY THE VIRGIN CHURCH
The Episcopal Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, a listed City Landmark, provides an oasis of tranquility and delight in a congested and vital San Francisco neighborhood. The existing worship space itself and two remarkable courtyards were highly cherished by the congregation. The remaining spaces however, including the Parish Hall, classrooms, and staff and pastoral offices were under-utilized, poorly arranged. We developed a project that moved the Parish Hall to a lighter, larger 2nd floor location, provided access for the disabled to most of the Church’s facilities, and effectively re-configured approximately two-thirds of the Church’s spaces without diminishing the valued historic interiors and facades.
